EXPERIENCE | WORLD-FIRST WHITE WATER RIVER DESCENT

Embark on a remarkable adventure with 404 Noir as your guide, to the heart of Guyana, the only English speaking country in South America, on its north coast. 404 Noir has meticulously planned a groundbreaking white water rafting expedition in western Guyana, descending an untouched and previously un-descended gorge within the pristine rainforest. Founder roger hyde, along with white water, rope and logistical specialists, have conducted an extensive helicopter reconnaissance, capturing detailed film and gps coordinates of all features. The adventure begins with a helicopter drop atop an untouched tepui, where guests will descend under the guidance of expert rope specialists, suspended high above the tropical jungle. After regrouping at the base, the team will navigate approximately 8 km to reach the river and the top of the gorge.

Over six days, the thrilling journey descends nearly 80 kms while prioritising safety, with world-class swift water rescue specialists and wilderness first response medical technicians on hand with continuous communication through satellite messaging and voice systems. Throughout the 5 to 6-night expedition, participants will conquer numerous grade iv and v rapids, occasionally pausing to portage, rappel waterfalls and set up camps for rest and delicious meals along the way.

This exceptional opportunity is tailor-made for close-knit groups of friends or individuals looking to form a cohesive team during pre-deployment training. To ensure a seamless and secure expedition experience, extensive pre-training sessions spanning several days are mandatory well before departure. These sessions will take place at a location convenient for the client, enabling the guest team, expert safety personnel, and rafting team to familiarise themselves with one another and hone essential skills in advance. The next chance to embark on this extraordinary expedition due to optimal river levels is scheduled for March 2025.

LOCAL LEGACY

Finding positive alternative income sources beyond environmentally harmful activities like mineral extraction and forestry is crucial for preserving the delicate habitats and biodiversity of exquisite destinations such as the interior of Guyana. Funds from these journeys contribute to developing local capacity, sustainably training indigenous guides to support international teams, and ensuring all equipment meets the highest international standards, fostering a sustainable approach to both exploration and conservation.
